The President of Ghana Athletics, Bawah Fuseini, believes Ghana's relay team for the 2023 World Athletics Championships is stronger than last year's squad in Oregon.
Ghana is set to compete at this edition in Budapest which is set to commence on Saturday, August 19.
Ghana set a national record in Oregon last year when the relay team made up of Sean Safo-Antwi, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Manu and Joseph Paul Amoah ran a blistering time of 38.08s in the final.
This year's quartet will be without three of the faces from last year with Azamati, Sarfo-Antwi and Manu absent from the team.
And while the current team, made up of Amoah, James Dadzie, Isaac Botsio and Edwin Gadayi have all run below sub-10, Fuseini believes they would be better than the previous team.
"We have a pretty good team now...We were doing sub-10 [in Oregon] but prior to that, they were not repeating that time," he said on Joy Sports' Prime Take.
"This team is more potent than the team we took to Oregon. Collectively, it's stronger than the Oregon team."
Fuseini also added that the team would be looking to first book a final place in Budapest which will create opportunities for them in subsequent competitions.
"I have two sets of goals. We are praying to go to the final first so that we book our ticket to Barbados for the World Relays. That will also propel us to the Olympic Games [in Paris next year]," he continued.
"When we get the ticket to Barbados then we will plan towards the medal performance because our ultimate goal is to be in Paris 2024."
Ghana's relay team will compete on Day 7 of the games in Budapest, where they will run in the Men's 4x100m Relay Heat.
