Netflix has released the full trailer for its live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
All eight hour-long episodes of the show’s first season will premiere on Netflix on Feb. 22. The first trailer for the series was released in November.
Gordon Cormier stars as Aang, an Avatar who must learn to master the four elements of water, earth, fire and air to restore balance to the world after it is threatened by the Fire Nation.
Per the official logline, “Alongside his newfound friends Sokka and Katara, siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai.
But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task.”
Other cast members include Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka and Dallas Liu as Zuko. Additionally, Daniel Dae Kim stars as Fire Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as General Iroh, Casey Camp-Horinek as Gran Gran, Arden Cho as June, Maria Zhang as Suki, Sebastien Amoruso as Jet, Utkarsh Ambudkar as King Bumi and Danny Pudi as The Mechanist.
The new trailer is packed full of bending and Fire Nation warfare. It also gives first looks at several characters, like King Bumi, June and Jet.
Albert Kim serves as showrunner and executive producer. Michael Goi and Jabbar Raisani direct and executive produce with Rideback’s Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore. Co-executive producer Roseanne Liu and Jet Wilkinson also direct.
Creators of the Nickelodeon series Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino were originally involved with the Netflix adaptation but exited due to creative differences.
The duo instead set up Avatar Studios at Paramount to work on a feature-length “Last Airbender” animated film.
