The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, is worried about the Electoral Commission's delay in preparations for the upcoming December 7 elections.
According to Dr. Tanko-Computer, it is unacceptable that with less than 10 months to the polls, the Commission is yet to release a calendar of activities to guide the elections.
Speaking in an interview on Citi FM, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT insists the EC is not ready for the exercise.
“I must say this current EC appears not ready for the December 7 elections. As we speak now, we have 8 months to the general election, and this EC has no calendar.”
The comment by the NDC member comes days after the the Electoral Commission (EC) assured the public and all stakeholders that it will unveil its electoral calendar for 2024 before the end of February 2024.
During an appearance before the Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, February 21, Deputy Chair of the Commission, Dr. Bossman Asare, also reaffirmed the Commission's commitment to maintaining the original December 7 date for the general elections despite earlier discussions for a change.
But Dr. Tanko-Computer is not convinced.
He is therefore urging the EC to deliver on its promises by stressing on the importance of the calendar, which outlines key activities including the opening of the limited registration exercise and the procurement of electoral materials.
