Professor Baffour Agyeman-Duah, previously a senior governance advisor at the UN, has called for compulsory mental health screenings for those aiming for high-level positions in Ghana.
He underscored the significant role mental fitness plays in leadership, given the substantial influence leaders' decisions have on the nation.
Citing global standards, he recommended that Ghana implement mandatory mental health checks for public office candidates to mitigate societal risks.

In a discussion on Asaase Radio, Prof. Agyeman-Duah expressed his concerns about the ambitious campaign promises ahead of the 2024 elections, particularly singling out Nana Kwame Bediako's vow to extend the sea to Kumasi.
He questioned the feasibility of such promises and the integrity of the candidates proposing them.
"On the campaign trail, there are all sorts of promises; someone is even suggesting dredging the sea up north. It makes you question their background and integrity," he remarked.
Nana Kwame Bediako also known as Cheddar, the New Force leader and presidential candidate, has spoken about how his dredging initiative will allow ships to reach Kumasi, enhancing the Ashanti region's trade capabilities.
