The Sunyani Technical University (STU) is set to host the 3rd Biennial Applied Research Conference of Technical Universities in Ghana (ARCTUG, 2024).
The conference is expected to draw relevant researchers from academia and industry across Ghana, Africa, and the International communities.
In a release signed by Dickson Kyere-Duah, Secretary for ARCTUG 2024, the conference, under the auspices of the Vice-Chancellors of the Technical Universities of Ghana, is expected to take place from May 28 to June 1, 2024.
Research has become the impetus that enhances social and economic growth through innovation and creativity.
In supporting the agenda, the release said the Technical Universities of Ghana, whose mandate is to provide competency-based training through Technical, Vocational, and Educational Training (TVET), have contributed to various debates and knowledge by undertaking cutting-edge research and coming out with innovations, inventions, and creativity through ARCTUG.
It said researchers from all the ten Technical Universities in Ghana will present papers at the conference on the theme, "University, Industry, and Government Partnership for Accelerating Innovation and Entrepreneurship for National Development".
The sub-thematic areas the conference will touch base with are; "Innovation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths for National Development", "Innovation in Applied Linguistics for National Development", Innovation in Applied Arts, Built, and Natural Environment for Sustainability", and “Innovation in Business, Management, Social Sciences, and Entrepreneurship”.
Others are "Tourism, Hospitality, and Creative Arts for National Development", “Innovation in TVET for National Development", "Innovation in Energy Management and Climate Change for Sustainable Development", and "Commercialization of Innovations from Universities for Wealth and Job Creation", among other areas.
It noted that President Akufo-Addo, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, and Emmanuel Sackey, International Consultant and IP Expert, are among other distinguished personalities expected to speak at the conference.
The release said there will be plenary discussions, paper presentations, an exhibition, a closing ceremony, awards and dinner night, and a tour of some tourist sites in the Bono Region during the conference.
It urged research stakeholders, especially from education and industry, to participate and contribute their quota to the conference with the submission of their papers for presentations and Innovations for exhibition.
The Technical Universities in Ghana are; Accra, Bolgatanga, Cape Coast, Koforidua, and Ho Technical Universities.
The rest are Sunyani, Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale, and Wa Technical Universities.
