Legendary boxer Azumah Nelson, affectionately known as "The Professor" has launched an inspiring new initiative called the 'Zoom Zoom Clinic'.
The initiative was launched on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly in partnership with GCB Bank, the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Boxing Federation, and the Ghana Education Service.
The clinics will be rolled out in four regions: Northern, Central, Ashanti, and Geater Accra, aiming to combine mentorship, boxing training, and community engagement to uplift and empower young people.
As part of giving back to society, the former world champion is channeling his passion and experience into a programme that seeks to provide more than just physical training.
"You know, if you look at our achievements today, the life, the respect, the humbleness, the hunger, and the things they are supposed to do, I can't see things like that," Nelson remarked.
"I was sitting down and planning because this is Ghana, this is our country, these are our children."
He continued, "What can we do for them to stand firm so that they can take over when we are not there? This is why I said no, let me come with this Zoom Zoom Clinic so that I can go to them and talk to them."
"Nothing comes easy and respect takes you far, and you have to learn. It is not only about boxing, it is about everything."
Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, who graced the occasion, assured that the government will support the initiative.
He stated, "My presence here tells you that the government is so committed and making sure that whatever support we have to put on the table to make this initiative a successful one, the government will ensure it provides financial support for the programme."
The Zoom Zoom Clinics are designed to impart valuable life skills, promote health and fitness, and build resilience and discipline among youth..
