Presidential aspirant of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has pledged to break the duopoly of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Since the advent of the 4th Republic in 1992, power has alternated between the NDC and NPP. Currently, the NPP is optimistic about breaking the eight-year cycle, while the NDC is confident of securing electoral victory due to economic mismanagement by the current administration.
Mr Mornah believes he represents the fresh perspective Ghanaians long for, noting the frustration of many young unemployed professionals.
“Are you saying that the young people of this country are satisfied with the level of despondency that they face today? Are you saying that the young people whose skills, whose talents, who are nurses, who are teachers, who are engineers that cannot find placement within the public sector are satisfied?
“It is this level of frustration that will [make Ghanaians] change away from the two major political parties of the NPP and the NDC to a victory for Bernard Mornah,” he said on JoyNews’ Election Brief on July 31.
Mr Mornah believes that the only reason both parties have kept alternating power is because he has never shown interest in joining the race.
However, now that he has decided to run, he is confident there will be a significant difference.
