The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has assured the public that under a John Dramani Mahama government, Senior High School (SHS) students will never be fed expired food.
The comment, made in a Facebook post on Sunday, November 17, comes in response to the recent exposé by the North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Mr Ablakwa revealed that 22,000 kilograms of expired rice were repackaged and distributed to SHS students as part of the government’s school feeding programme.
This revelation has sparked widespread outrage, with many questioning the quality and safety of food being provided to students.
Dr Omane Boamah's comments emphasise that the NDC, with John Dramani Mahama as flagbearer in the upcoming elections, would ensure a higher standard of care for students.
He maintained that Mr Mahama’s government would never compromise the health and well-being of students by serving expired or unsafe food.
"A John Dramani Mahama government will never feed SHS students with expired food," he posted.
The Ministry of Education has responded to the allegations, stating that it is currently investigating the claims.
However, Dr Omane Boamah’s remarks seek to assure voters that the NDC remains committed to providing quality services in education, particularly in ensuring that students receive the best nutrition possible.
