The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued a stern warning to party agents at polling stations, stating that any misconduct would result in immediate removal from the premises.
This message was conveyed by Dr Benjamin Bannor-Bio, the Director of Electoral Services, during a three-hour briefing on the ongoing elections.
Dr Bannor-Bio emphasised that party agents are present at polling stations to observe the electoral process, not to cause disruption or interfere with the voting procedure.
He clarified that their role is strictly to ensure transparency and fairness, and any actions that undermine the integrity of the election would not be tolerated.
Dr Bannor-Bio further stated that the EC had put measures in place to ensure a smooth and orderly process, and that all agents must respect the rules governing their presence at polling stations.
He made it clear that any party agent found misbehaving would be immediately removed from the station to maintain peace and security during the election.
The Director of Electoral Services concluded by urging all party agents to adhere to the guidelines set out by the Commission and work together to ensure the election is conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
"So far the party agents are conducting themselves well, and I urge them to continue because if they misconduct themselves as party agents they will be sacked from the polling agents as they are mere observers and should report any issues to the preceding officer," he warned.
