The Ghana-Russia Centre for Commerce and Relations, a non-profit organisation based in Accra, is set to offer Russian language courses in Ghana.
According to the Centre's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), John Aggrey, one of the organisation's goals is to enhance the relationship between Ghana and Russia, improving Ghana’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
He explained that achieving this goal requires close cooperation between the two countries in various areas, including language. "We are exploring how best to run Russian language courses for parents interested in having their children learn a second language," he told myjoyonline.com.
Mr Aggrey noted that the Centre will begin pilot courses in Accra in 2025, with plans to expand them across the country. He hoped the programme would be successful and available to all interested individuals through virtual and in-person platforms.
"With the advent of IT, we can easily run virtual courses online," he said, adding that the Centre would collaborate with telecommunications companies to make data packages affordable, enabling applicants to attend virtual classes.
He also mentioned that he would work to ensure that telcos provide free internet access for children to participate in these courses.
"We can liaise with the telcos to provide data packages for these young learners or even a free subscription online, allowing parents to supervise their children as they learn a second language."
Mr Aggrey believes that if Ghanaians learn and speak Russian, it will greatly strengthen the relationship between the two countries and benefit their economies.
He made these remarks in Pakro, Akuapem South District in the Eastern Region, during a ceremony to celebrate the Christmas vacation with children from St. James Anglican Basic School in the community.
