Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah Kubi, raised the issue during an appearance on TV3 on Saturday, 28 December.
He emphasised the growing influence of money in the party's internal elections, which he warned could undermine the party’s long-term sustainability.
“The NPP constitution is so flawed and needs amendment. Monetisation has gradually taken over the party,” Mr Appiah Kubi remarked.
He called for urgent reforms to restore the integrity of the NPP’s democratic processes, which he believes are vital for the party’s survival and relevance in Ghanaian politics.
As part of rebuilding efforts, the NPP has announced plans to set up a committee in January 2025 to assess its performance in the 2024 general elections.
The committee will analyse the factors contributing to the party's loss and propose strategies for strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
The 2024 elections, officially declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday, 9 December, saw the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Dramani Mahama, win decisively with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of valid votes cast.
His main opponent, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP, received 4,657,304 votes, translating to 41.61%.
Reacting to the defeat, NPP National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim admitted that the outcome was disappointing.
“The results were not what we anticipated,” he conceded. Mr Ntim stressed the need for deep introspection and structural adjustments to position the party for success in the next election cycle.
