Eight distinguished institutions were among honourees at the National Honours and Awards 2024, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, on Monday, December 30.
The institutions were celebrated for their remarkable contributions to national development and global partnerships.
The event, chaired by President Akufo-Addo, and also graced by Vice President Dr Mahaudu Bawumia, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo and Ministers of State amongst others, aimed to recognise excellence and encourage continued dedication in advancing Ghana's development.
Among the honoured institutions was the Ghana Armed Forces, represented by Lt. Gen. Oppong Peprah, Chief of Defence Staff.
The Armed Forces were commended for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s borders and ensuring national security, a role critical to the country’s stability.
The Ghana Police Service, led by Inspector General of Police Dr.George Akufo-Dampare, was also recognised for maintaining law and order across the country. Their efforts have been pivotal in fostering peace and stability in communities nationwide.
The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences received accolades for its vital role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Academy provided real-time data, modeling, and advocacy that guided Ghana’s national response, effectively mitigating the virus’s impact.
International partners were also celebrated, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for advancing sustainable development initiatives and fostering international cooperation, and the China-Africa Development Fund for its strategic investments that have strengthened Ghana’s infrastructure and driven economic growth.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) was honoured for its efforts in promoting safe and orderly migration, enhancing livelihoods, and supporting migration management in Ghana.
The Ghana Immigration Service was commended for its crucial role in managing the country’s borders and facilitating legal migration. This contribution has bolstered national security while supporting socio-economic development.
Another notable honouree was the Ghana Prisons Service, recognised for its commitment to the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.
Their work in promoting security and human dignity within the correctional system was highlighted as an essential component of the nation’s justice framework.
In his remarks, President Akufo-Addo emphasised the importance of recognising institutions that exemplify resilience and excellence.
He urged stakeholders to continue fostering collaboration for the nation’s prosperity.
“To our honourees, let this recognition inspire you to reach even greater heights. Your contributions have catalysed and transformed our society, and you embody the very best of Ghana,” the President remarked.
