A 51-year-old driver, Abukari Siedu, narrowly escaped death after being attacked by highway armed robbers on the Dambai-Asukawkaw road last night.
The incident occurred between Yabram and Anyabor No 2, two farming communities near Dambai on Sunday at about 0130 hours.
Philip Kwadwo Bidaba, the Assembly member of Kwame-Akura East Electoral Area, confirmed the robbery attack to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
Mr Seidu was driving a Kia Rhino with registration number GE 6139-10, loaded with yams, from Borae in the Krachi Nchumuru District to Accra, when the robbers struck.
In an interview with GNA, Mr Seidu recounted the harrowing experience, stating that he sustained bullet wounds between his left elbow and arm.
The victim in addition, showed another bullet wound on his ribs.
The driver managed to drive to a nearby community, where he raised an alarm and alerted the residents of the robbery.
He said the Police were quickly called to the crime scene, but the robbers had already fled into the bush, evading arrest.
According to him, he was subsequently brought to the Dambai Health Centre for treatment, adding that, the nurses at the facility informed him that the bullets were still lodged in his body, specifically in his arm and ribs and that he needed to be transferred to a larger hospital for the removal of the bullets.
As a result, Mr Seidu has decided to travel to Accra to seek medical attention at one of the city’s larger hospitals.
He hopes to receive the necessary treatment to remove the bullets and recover from his injuries to continue his trade.
Sources revealed that the Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are searching for the perpetrators.
