Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus and MP for Gomoa Central, has endorsed Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Minister nominee for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.
During a parliamentary debate on the approval of ministerial nominees in Parliament today, Thursday, January 23, he praised her extensive experience and urged Parliament to support her nomination, citing her potential to transform the sector.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, A Plus commended the president’s appointments and highlighted Dzifa Gomashie’s qualifications, describing her as a key contributor to the creative arts industry.
“Apart from being a deputy minister in John Mahama’s first term, she is an actress, a screenwriter, and a key contributor to the growth of the creative arts industry. She has the requisite experience to deliver and to unearth talent, especially in rural areas,” he said.
Focusing on tourism, A Plus urged the Ministry to improve local tourist sites. He pointed to landmarks such as Kwame Nkrumah’s residence, Okomfo Anokye’s birthplace, and Tetteh Quarshie’s farm as untapped opportunities for attracting international tourists.
“People travel to Israel to see where Jesus had a conversation with Satan or where Jacob fought an angel. While I may not have evidence to disprove those, we do have historical evidence here in Ghana, like where Kwame Nkrumah lived when he returned to Ghana. If we improve these sites, we can bring tourists and revenue into the country,” he argued.
He expressed hope for a renewed Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts under Madam Gomashie’s leadership, calling on his colleagues to support her approval.
“I believe we are going to see a new face of tourism and creative arts, and I wish her all the best. Let’s support her to become the next minister,” he concluded.
