The Ashanti NPP Caucus in Parliament says the Inspector General of Police and Regional Security Council should be blamed for any security breaches in the Council of State election re-run, scheduled for Monday.
This comes after a refusal to change the election venue to the Regional Police Headquarters as proposed by the group.
Spokesperson, Vincent Ekow Assafuah says the security at the Regional Coordinating Council where the first election was disrupted by some thugs is compromised.
The MP further indicated, "we will hold the current leadership specifically the IGP and the Chairman of the REGSEC fully accountable for any further disruptions if they do not change the venue."
The counting of votes in the council of state election in Ashanti Region last week halted after some thugs pounced on the Electoral Commission and threw apart the ballot paper and other materials.
In a letter of the Electoral Commission ordering a re-run, the Ashanti NPP caucus in parliament called for enhanced security for the process.
Tafo MP, Vincent Ekow Assafuah explains changing the venue of the election to the police headquarters would have ensured maximum security.
""We signalled that the election can't be held at the same venue, we wanted it to be pushed to the Central Police Station because at that place you will have all the men in uniform to be able to protect the sanity of the election", he said.
The caucas also cautioned against any attempt to sneak some unauthorised persons into the electoral college.
Mr. Assafuah has called for a free and fair electoral process.
"We have also gathered intelligence that certain Assemblies are heated with factions attempting to alter their representatives on the Electoral roll. Report also indicate that Coordinating Directors have been instructed to swear in appointed assembly member to register them eligible to vote", he said.
He further said, "we know the prerogative lies with the President to choose government appointees to the Assemblies, but it does not lie within the jurisdiction of the Coordinating Director to appoint people and make them eligible to vote as far as the council of state is concerned."
