The newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has expressed hopes in improving the tourism sector in Ghana.
Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM's Showbiz A-Z, Maame Efua noted that she was the right fit for the job and was ready to help make the tourism industry better.
Asked if Kwasi Agyeman's performance as GTA CEO puts pressure on her, she answered in the affirmative.
"It certainly does. But the truth is that before Akwasi Agyeman came to GTA, nobody knew him. He was a low key person at Happy FM, he had an affiliation with Global Media Alliance and I knew him at the time because I had done a job with with on Ghana at 50. I knew he was quiet, unassuming man until he came onto the scene. Also, he took a while to settle in, and he did the magic," she said.
She however mentioned that with her background in marketing and experience in the tourism industry, she would be able to add on to what Akwasi Agyeman did when he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority.
"I think that his background in marketing and events really helped. I pray to God that I am able to do same and even more because we have similar backgrounds," she said.
According to Maame Efua, apart from her experience in the field of journalism, events, marketing and hospitality, she also run a company that dealt mainly in cruise tourism.
"My husband and I owned a tour company with another friend called Kwabena Essuman. My husband is Eric Houadjeto and they owned tour company called Royal Protocol Services.
I am proud to say that my company hosted Ghana's first cruise ship and we worked with Sun Seekers," he noted.
Maame Efia Houadjeto takes over from Akwasi Agyeman, who she claims has lent support to her since she took over as the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Tourism Authority.
