The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has been appointed Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2026 Africa Armwrestling Championship, underscoring Ghana’s expanding footprint in sports tourism.
The appointment was announced in an official statement shared on the Ghana Tourism Authority’s Facebook page, reflecting strong institutional support for the continental sporting event, which Ghana is set to host.
Mrs Houadjeto will head a multidisciplinary Local Organising Committee responsible for planning, coordination and execution of the championship, which is expected to draw armwrestlers, officials and supporters from across the continent.
Other members of the committee include Dr Kofi Addo-Agyekum as Vice Chairperson, alongside Mr Edwin Amankwah, ACI Godwin Saah, Mr Gideon Hammond, Ms Jessica Kwarteng and Mr Andre Ackah.
Expressing confidence in the team’s ability to deliver a memorable championship, the Ghana Tourism Authority described the committee as well-positioned to raise the bar for sports event organisation in Ghana, declaring, “Africa is coming. Accra is ready.”
The 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship is anticipated to contribute significantly to sports development while boosting tourism, hospitality and Ghana’s international profile, particularly positioning Accra as a competitive destination for major sporting events.
