Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Keta Constituency, in the Volta Region, has expressed his willingness to work with any new appointment to the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Keta area.
He described all the aspirants shortlisted for the position in the area as competent, emphasising that whoever was chosen by the President and endorsed by Assembly Members would work towards the municipality's progress.
Mr Gakpey in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that the shortlisted names had however demonstrated a high spirit of commitment and dedication to the development of the area after they had gone through a thorough interview by the regional MMDCE vetting committee.
“I am a strong advocate for the development of our area and with my background in public health among others and the experience l gathered so far in Parliament, l am well-positioned to collaborate with the new MCE to drive growth and improvement in Keta,” he said.
The selection process for the new MMDCE was currently underway whilst shortlisted names of all constituencies in the country would be vetted by the national committee before one person would be selected for the assembly members to endorse as the Municipal or District Chief Executive.
The aspirants shortlisted for Keta include Wisdom Seade, the Assembly member for Anyako electoral area and Keta NDC Chairperson, Emmanuel Kwaku Tay, NDC Keta Secretary, Joseph Amekuedi, NDC Keta Vice Chairperson whilst Simon Awadzi, Assembly member of Abolove-Nolopui electoral area was later added to the list by the regional vetting committee.
“The final decision will be made by the President following an interview process at the national level and l am ever ready and committed to work with anyone chosen positively towards ensuring continuity and progress of Keta constituency.”
Mr Gakpey appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and the national vetting committee to select the best at of all the aspiring candidates for the various districts that would serve the interest of the nation rather than their various parochial personal interests.
He however said that the appointment of a new MCE was a significant event for the Keta assembly to open a new chapter for development and progress and the public should rally support behind whoever would be selected to lead the area.
As the Keta constituency prepares for the new MCE, residents were eagerly awaiting the opportunity to work with the newly appointed leader and with MP’s support and collaboration, the communities were optimistic about the prospects for growth and development.
As the process unfolded, residents and stakeholders were watching closely to see who would be chosen as the next MCE among the four shortlisted names and assured of cooperation for a productive and successful partnership.
They believed that the Keta constituency has a rich history of community-driven development initiatives and with unity and collaboration between the next MCE and the MP, the area would be poised for even greater progress and growth.
They charged the next MCE and the MP to launch an emergency investigation into issues involving the reclaimed land and alleged bribery and corruption cases levelled against some assembly members in the previous administration.
