Ghana Link Network Services Ltd has dismissed claims made in a recent Daily Graphic publication suggesting that the weighbridge system under the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) at Tema Port was non-operational.
In a statement addressing the report, Ghana Link clarified that the weighbridges were fully functional at the time of the visit by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, and the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe.
According to the company, the issue raised by the Minister for Transport was not about the system’s functionality but rather its enforcement.
Mr Nikpe had observed that some trucks were bypassing the weighbridges and inquired about the reason behind this.
In response, Ghana Link explained that the process is currently in its piloting phase, which means certain vehicles are not yet mandated to pass through the weighbridges.
This phased approach, the company noted, is intended to ensure a smooth transition while maintaining the free flow of traffic ahead of full-scale implementation.
Regarding the handling of overloaded vehicles, Ghana Link further explained that Customs is working closely with the Ghana Highway Authority and Port Authorities to establish a seamless data-sharing mechanism on axle weight compliance once the system is fully operational.
Ghana Link reaffirms its commitment to transparency, efficiency, and compliance within Ghana’s trade and logistics sector.
"We urge media outlets to engage in fact-based reporting to avoid misinformation that could undermine public confidence in national infrastructure initiatives," the statement added.
