The Chiefs and people of Awudome Anyirawase, a farming community in the Ho West District of the Volta Region, are set to celebrate this year’s Easter to raise funds to complete a construction of decent accommodation for health workers in the community.

Through internal fundraising and communal labour, the community began building a 4-unit, two-bedroom apartment for health staff serving at the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound.

The project, which started last year, was temporarily stalled due to financial challenges.

In an effort to complete the facility and hand it over to the nurses, the community has decided to use this year’s Easter celebration as an opportunity to urge citizens, both at home and abroad, to contribute towards the completion of the project.

Elders of the community highlighted the importance of finishing the accommodation, as it will encourage nurses posted to the community to stay and serve without the challenge of inadequate housing.

In rural Ghana, nurses and other public servants face numerous difficulties, particularly related to the lack of decent accommodation, access to potable water, and poor road networks.

To address these issues, Awudome Anyirawase developed the idea of constructing the facility to attract and retain health workers.

The community is now appealing to benevolent Ghanaians to support them in completing the project and improving conditions for healthcare workers in the area.

The celebration is dubbed "Dumeviza," with the theme "Yes! Together We Can." It will be observed with a series of activities from April 14 to 21.
