As the world marks Theatre Day today, thespian Eugene Evans shares his journey with Scribe News. The expressive theater and film actor has brought varying characters to life since 2016. He has starred in plays such as I Want To Sue God, Tribeless, and Once Upon A Riddle.
Eugene Evans is a beast on stage. His voice is a vehicle of emotions. He is an embodiment of the roles he plays. However, his success on stage did not come on a silver platter. He has sometimes battled with stage fright.
"I visualize success from start to finish, keeping in mind that the audience is on my side and wouldn’t want me to fail. This is enough to overcome stage fright," he said.

Eugene Evans is a cast member of Kobina Ansah's heart-pounding one-man original musical, THE SAINT IN THE DEVIL'S SHOES. He plays the role of Sika, a public servant who is on the run because of his huge debts.
"My initial reaction when I saw the script was, 'This is a lot. Definitely a huge challenge.” Unlike the regular plays where there are other actors to feed off each other’s energy, this is just you on stage keeping the audience glued from start to finish. It’s like doing double of what you already know or do as stage actor," he confesses.
Preparing for his first one-man show has not been a walk in the park. From getting his lines to characterization, it has been challenging yet a good one.

He admonishes all and sundry to go see his new play, THE SAINT IN THE DEVIL'S SHOES, on April 18th and 19th at the National Theatre of Ghana. "The story touches on everything relatable. From our day to day lifestyle to economic dislocation to gambling and what have you, this is a must-see. It is also laced with original music. It is definitely one not to miss."
The original musical is themed on the ripple effects of corruption. It points out to its audience that every decision of theirs, no matter how small, will have a rippling effect on others ~ both positively and negatively.
