A new survey by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that nearly three in four voters rated the performance of Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the former Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, as very high during the 2024 general elections.
The findings highlight broad public approval of his leadership in overseeing election security.
Despite this strong endorsement, the survey also showed that only one in five voters opposed his dismissal from office.
This suggests that while many Ghanaians recognised his competence during the election, a significant number were either indifferent or supported his removal.
Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, shared these insights in a Facebook post on Saturday, March 29. He stated,
"Nearly 3 in 4 voters rate Dr Akufo Dampare’s performance very high during the election, but only 1 in 5 oppose his sacking."
The survey’s results have sparked discussions on the reasons behind Dampare’s removal, despite his widely acknowledged professionalism.
Some analysts believe political considerations may have played a role, while others argue it reflects a broader issue of leadership transitions in key state institutions.
