The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics (GIA), Mussa Dankwah, has disclosed that more than 88 per cent of New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates are above 35 years old, contradicting claims that the party’s voting delegates are dominated by the youth.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Dankwah explained that data from a recent survey shows a significant age imbalance within the party’s delegate system.
According to him, the survey sample consisted of 81 per cent males and 19 per cent females.
In terms of age distribution, delegates aged 18–24 constituted less than 1%, while those between 25–34 made up 12%. Delegates aged 35–44 accounted for 43%, 45–54 formed 34%, 55–64 made up 9%, and those aged 65 and above represented 2%.
He noted that the NPP’s voter album shows the majority of delegates fall within the 35–44 age bracket, resulting in over 88% being above 35 years.
Mr. Dankwah said this age structure means the party’s delegates are misaligned with the party’s national population, warning that candidates who enjoy strong youth support may struggle in internal elections.
“This has been one of the fundamental problems some candidates are facing. If it is not addressed, the problem will persist and the party may eventually face serious decline,” he cautioned.
