Distinguished financial economist, Professor Lord Mensah, of the the University of Ghana Business School, has been appointed as the new Head of the Local Government Service.
Prof. Mensah brings a wealth of academic and practical experience to the role. He holds a PhD in Applied Economics-Finance from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, an MSc in Financial Mathematics from the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
His international expertise is evident in his presentations at leading finance and economics conferences worldwide, including the World Finance Conference in Portugal, the Swiss Society for Financial Market Research, and events in the U.S., South Africa, Vietnam, France, and Singapore. His extensive research portfolio is widely cited and indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar.
Beyond his academic achievements, Prof. Mensah has consulted for prominent institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Bank of Ghana. He also serves as Executive Director of the African Centre for Development Finance and is a frequent commentator on Ghana’s financial landscape across media and corporate platforms.
His appointment is expected to bring significant financial and economic expertise to the management of local government systems, with potential implications for fiscal decentralization and development financing across Ghana.
