The Municipal Chief Executive for Builsa North in the Upper East Region, Solomon Akogti, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama’s 'Tree for Life Restoration Initiative', describing it as a visionary and noble response to environmental degradation and the growing threat of climate change.
The MCE expressed concern over the alarming rate of tree cover loss, declining soil fertility, and recurring droughts within the municipality, all of which have contributed to food insecurity and the erosion of sustainable livelihoods.
Nonetheless, he voiced hope, affirming that it is never too late to act and that the 'Tree for Life Initiative' offers a beacon of promise for future generations.

He was speaking at a commemorative ceremony held in Sandema.
Mr. Akogti underscored the need for collective action in restoring degraded lands and promoting sustainable livelihoods. He urged stakeholders, including government agencies, traditional authorities, development partners, schools, and youth groups, to work collaboratively to ensure the success of the initiative.
Mr. Akogti assured that the Builsa North Municipal Assembly is fully committed to partnering with relevant stakeholders to implement community-led afforestation projects. He noted plans to supply seedlings, support agroforestry practices, and integrate tree planting into school curricula and civic education programmes.

He said with a passionate appeal for environmental stewardship, “Let us all become ambassadors for restoration. Let us plant trees today and sow the seeds of hope for cooler temperatures, revived ecosystems, improved harvests, and greater resilience.”

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Director of the Forest Services Division, traditional leaders, and representatives from government agencies and non-governmental organisations.
