The countdown to academic glory and bragging rights has begun as the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) kicks off its Regional Qualifiers on Monday, June 30, marking the start of five weeks of intense intellectual showdowns across the country.
Over 250 senior high schools across the country, grouped into northern and southern sectors, are participating in this year’s qualifiers. The opening contests for both sectors begin in Sunyani and Takoradi respectively, setting the tone for what promises to be another exciting edition of Ghana’s most prestigious academic competition.
This year, the Ashanti Region once again takes the lead with the highest number of contests nationwide: 22 matches spread across six days, from July 21 to 26. With schools like KNUST SHS, Yaa Asantewaa Girls’, Kumasi High, and St. Louis SHS in the mix.
The regional qualifiers cut across nine key regions for the northern sector including Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, and Upper West, with each contest serving as a crucial gateway to the national stage.
The Southern Sector also comprises the Greater Accra, Oti, Volta, Eastern, Central, Western North, and Western regions. Notable schools like St. Thomas Aquinas SHS, St. John’s Grammar School, Accra Girls’ SHS, St. Rose’s SHS, Adisadel College, and Aggrey Memorial SHS will compete fiercely with other contenders for a coveted spot in the national championship.
