The Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for unlawful possession of firearms.
The suspects, identified as Acheampong Kwadwo, 21, and James Antwi Adjei, 24, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted in the early hours of Tuesday at a known criminal hideout in Nweneso, Trabuom, and Nkwawie, following targeted efforts by police to crack down on violent crime in the region.
According to a police statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, "a search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of two pump-action shotguns one bearing serial number ASAO 2164 2021 and the other without a serial number".

"Both firearms are suspected to be stolen and were possibly intended for use in robbery operations across the Atwima Districts and the Greater Kumasi area," the statement said.
The two suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
“The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. The recovered firearms have been retained as exhibits for evidential purposes. Further updates will be communicated in due course as the investigation progresses,” the statement noted.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command says further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
