Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP), when returned to power, will ensure the prosecution of all individuals involved in the recent electoral violence during the Ablekuma North rerun.
Speaking at the party’s National Delegates Conference in Accra on Saturday, Dr Bawumia condemned the violent scenes that marred the rerun exercise in parts of the constituency and called on President John Mahama to prosecute the perpetrators.
He argued that, should the government fail to prosecute the persons involved in the violence, the next NPP government will pursue justice, "I again call on His Excellency the president to bring the perpetrators to book and to remind them that the elephant never forgets, no matter how long it takes, we will prosecute the perpetrators when we assume office in 2029."
The rerun, conducted by the Electoral Commission in 19 polling stations following disputes over results in the 2024 parliamentary election, was overshadowed by reports of chaos, physical confrontations, and attacks on journalists and party executives of the NPP.
