Black Queens midfielder Grace Asantewaa was named Woman of the Match following Ghana’s hard-fought victory over Algeria in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
After a goalless draw in 120 minutes of action, Ghana won 4-2 on penalties to seal qualification.
The 24-year-old FC Juárez player delivered a commanding and relentless performance that helped propel the Black Queens to their first semifinal appearance since 2016.
Speaking after the match, Asantewaa highlighted the team’s fierce determination going into the game.
“I’m very, very happy. We had to kill ourselves for this game,” she said. “Ghanaians believe it’s time we win the WAFCON.”
Ghana now prepares for a high-stakes semifinal showdown against host nation Morocco, the 2023 runners-up. A win would see the Black Queens reach the WAFCON final for the first time since 2006.
