A fierce fire tore through parts of the Dodowa Market in the early hours of Wednesday, October 15, 2025, destroying several metal containers and their contents before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) managed to bring it under control.
The inferno, which reportedly began around 1:25 a.m., spread rapidly through portions of the market, triggering panic among traders and nearby residents.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, thick plumes of smoke and intense flames had already engulfed multiple stalls, posing a serious threat to the entire market complex.
A team from the Katamanso Fire Station, led by ADO I Simon Sosu, responded swiftly, supported by reinforcements from the Adenta and Madina Fire Stations. Their coordinated efforts contained the fire by 3:06 a.m. and fully extinguished it by 4:51 a.m., averting further devastation.

Preliminary assessments indicate that six metal containers were partially damaged, while twelve others—along with their goods—were completely destroyed. However, firefighters succeeded in saving more than fifty market sheds and adjoining structures, preventing what could have been an extensive economic disaster.
No casualties or injuries were recorded. The GNFS has since launched an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.
