Founder and leader of the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a “true matriarch” and “a beacon of Ghanaian womanhood.”
In a tribute shared on his X page on Thursday, October 23, Mr Bediako said the news of her death had left him heartbroken, recalling her warmth, wisdom, and the motherly bond they shared.
“Oh no… my heart is broken. Who will give me those gentle nudges again, those whispered teases wrapped in wisdom, followed by laughter that could lift even the heaviest heart? You were my friend, my mother, and a true matriarch of this nation,” he wrote.
He added that his grief extends to the Rawlings family, mentioning her children by name. “If only I could share the pain of Kimathi, Zanetor, Yaa Asantewaa, and our dear Princess Amina, I would take a portion of their grief upon myself just to ease their burden,” he said.
Describing the late Mrs Rawlings as a woman of grace and strength, Mr Bediako praised her compassion, leadership, and influence on women and children across Ghana.
“What a beautiful spirit we were blessed to have in Ghana, our First Lady, our Mother of Strength, our Symbol of Grace. Your elegance, your compassion, your love for children and women, your leadership, and your fashion sense made you more than a First Lady. You became a beacon of Ghanaian womanhood,” he wrote.
He recalled seeing her only two weeks before her passing, describing her as “radiant as ever.”
“It’s hard to believe you’re gone, but I know you’re resting in divine peace. Your legacy will live on, in your daughters, in your people, and in the heart of every Ghanaian who was touched by your presence.”
“May your soul find eternal rest in the arms of the Almighty. You will be missed, but never forgotten,” he added.
