Residents of Kyekyewere-Dadwene in the Ashanti region are protesting against the joint military and police swoop that reportedly led to the arrest of some community members.
On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, some soldiers and police officers stormed the community along the Kumasi – Obuasi highway at dawn to arrest residents for allegedly attacking some officials of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) who were on an anti-galamsey operation.
However, the aggrieved women of the community insist that they have been mistaken for another community, stressing that they are only farmers and private workers.
The community has since been left with only children and women, as a majority of the males, both young and old, remain in prison custody for two weeks.
"Honourable Andrew Asiamah Amoako, Second Speaker, your residents are calling on you today. Do not sit aloof and watch us suffer. You will surely need our votes in the next four years.
"We are only left with women taking care of this community. What strength do we have? (0:35) Bring back our fathers, our husbands and children," the residents said.
