Ghana will host one of the world’s most respected recognitions in data governance and privacy as the PICCASO Awards Africa makes its debut in Accra this December, celebrating institutions and individuals shaping the continent’s digital trust landscape.
The awards, recognised as the UK and Europe’s leading platform for honouring excellence in privacy, cybersecurity, compliance, and data governance, are arriving on the continent through a strategic partnership with the Africa Digital Rights Hub (ADRH).
The event will serve as the climax of the 2025 Data Protection Africa Summit and will take place on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, at the Labadi Beach Hotel.
PICCASO stands for Privacy, InfoSec, Compliance, Culture, Awareness, Strategy and Operations and was established by a globally focused, UK-based special interest group made up of senior leaders and experienced volunteers in privacy and data protection.
The platform has a track record of recognising outstanding contributions from regulators, privacy professionals, civil society, technology innovators, and organisations advancing strong data protection systems.
Executive Director of ADRH, Teki Akuetteh, said the introduction of the African edition is timely, noting the continent’s accelerating digital expansion and the need for trusted systems.
She stated that the PICCASO Awards Africa will shine a spotlight on leaders advancing innovation, strengthening sustainable technology practices, and safeguarding identities and data at the core of Africa’s digital economy.
The awards ceremony is expected to attract top policymakers, industry leaders, innovators, and changemakers from across public and private sectors.
Organisers say the event will recognise homegrown solutions, indigenous leadership, and the strengthening of regulatory frameworks across Africa’s digital ecosystem.
The PICCASO Awards Africa forms part of broader efforts to elevate the continent’s role in global data governance conversations, promote responsible digital growth, and foster a culture of privacy and cybersecurity excellence across institutions and emerging technology spaces.
The 2025 Data Protection Africa Summit and awards will position Ghana as a continental convening point for dialogue on data protection, innovation, and policy leadership, reinforcing the importance of trust, security, and accountability in Africa’s digital transformation.
