A 43-year-old farmer has been remanded into prison custody by the Asante Abuakwa circuit court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality for raping a hearing-impaired woman in a bush.
Abdulai Yussif pleaded not guilty to the charge of rape and will be brought before the court, presided over by Rosemond Dodua Agyiri, on December 11, this year.
Police Detective Chief Inspector Samuel Kyei Baffour, prosecuting, told the court that Yaa Agbavaon, the 40-year-old victim, lived with her grandmother at Afreseni near Mankranso, in the Ahafo Ano South-West District.
He said, on July 14, this year, at about 10 am, the victim was on her way to her grandmother’s farm and at a section of the path, she noticed that the accused person was behind her.
She stopped and paved the way for the accused person, but he suddenly grabbed her hand, dragged her into the bush, forcibly undressed her and had sex with her.
After the act, the accused person gave the victim a GH¢200 note and warned her not to tell anybody.
According to the prosecution, the victim proceeded to the farm and reported her ordeal to the grandmother.
A report was made to the Mankranso police, and the accused person was arrested.
In his caution statement, he admitted to having raped the victim.
After further investigations, he was charged and brought before the court.
