The MP for Tano North in the Brong Ahafo Region is advocating forced marriage for men and boys who impregnate young girls.
Freda Prempeh says she is worried that teenage pregnancy is on the rise in her region and wants the men responsible to be punished to serve as a deterrent to others who intend perpetuating such acts.
The MP is looking to move a motion in parliament to set off a debate.
‘I want to set this agenda for debate and discussion and probably file a motion in Parliament on this issue that men who flout their responsibilities and decide to impregnate girls should be made to cater for the child and marry the girl if possible’, she told Joy News Hannah Odame.
Ghana's constitution does not allow Parliament to initiate bills unless it does not impose a financial obligation on the Executive.
