The Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG) has praised President John Dramani Mahama for assenting to the removal of the COVID-19 levy, which takes effect in January 2026.
In a statement dated December 15, 2025, TAGG described the decision as the fulfilment of a campaign promise and a significant step toward easing the financial burden on traders, businesses, and importers.
The group said the removal of the levy reflects the government’s commitment to stabilising the economy and supporting trade facilitation.

TAGG also urged the government to build on the move by introducing further reforms, including the harmonisation of benchmark values at the ports to reduce costs, curb corruption, and boost business growth.
The group expressed optimism that continued pro-business policies will help position Ghana as a hub for trade facilitation and drive sustainable economic development.
