The Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association says it was completely left out of consultations for the government’s ongoing Nkoko Nkiti Nkiti poultry initiative, despite being the country’s largest organised poultry body.

Chief Executive Officer of the Association, Ali Mohammed, said the group — which has more than 1,400 active poultry farmers — has never seen any policy document on the programme nor been invited to contribute to its design or implementation.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday, December 19, Mr Mohammed revealed that the Association had written multiple letters requesting engagement but received no response from the authorities.

“On this Nkoko Nkiti Nkiti project the government is rolling out, as the biggest organisation in the country with over 1,412 active farmers, we have never seen the policy documents or how the rollout is being done,” he said. He added that several attempts to offer input were ignored, stressing that “nobody responded.”

According to him, the programme appears to be running without any involvement from the very farmers expected to anchor Ghana’s poultry recovery strategy. When asked whether the Association was consulted at any stage of the initiative, Mr Mohammed was categorical: “Never. Never. I’m telling you, never. I can say on authority, no.”

He further disclosed that none of the Association’s members is currently benefiting from the intervention.

“We asked our members if any of them are benefiting. Nobody can speak to it. At this point, we can only wish the programme well,” he noted.

The government launched the Nkoko Nkiti Nkiti initiative as part of efforts to revamp domestic poultry production and reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported chicken.

However, the Association’s concerns raise questions about stakeholder engagement, transparency, and alignment with the realities of local farmers.
