The Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association, Ali Muhammed, has raised concerns over what he describes as a disconnect between policy formulation at the national level and the realities faced by poultry farmers across the country.

Speaking on Joy Business' special discussion, "Can Ghana Feed Itself? The Future of Poultry Beyond Akoko Nketenkete," Ali Muhammed said policy makers must engage more directly with stakeholders in the poultry value chain if the sector is to realise its full potential.

According to him, there is a clear disjoint between the local and national levels, resulting in policies that often fail to address the practical challenges confronting farmers.

"The policy makers need to come down because there is a disjoint from the local level to the national level," he said.

He stressed that increased interaction between government officials and farmers would help shape policies that reflect the realities on the ground and lead to more effective interventions.

Ali Muhammed noted that Ghana's poultry industry has the potential to strengthen food security, create employment and reduce the country's dependence on imported poultry products. However, he argued that this can only be achieved if policy makers work more closely with industry players and incorporate their experiences into decision-making.

The discussion, organised by Joy Business in partnership with the Super Morning Show, brought together leading experts and stakeholders in the poultry industry to examine how Ghana can build a more resilient and competitive poultry sector capable of contributing significantly to national food self-sufficiency.
