The Speaker of Parliament has reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and open governance, emphasising the media’s crucial role in Ghana’s democratic development.
Alban Sumana Bagbin, speaking at the Parliament Media Soiree and Recognition Night 2025, acknowledged the Parliamentary Press Corps as a vital link between Parliament and the public.
He said, “A free, professional, and independent media remains central to informed citizenship, public confidence, and effective democratic oversight.”
This was contained in a statement issued by Mr David Sebastian Damoah, the Director of Media Relations, Parliament, and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday.
It said the Speaker commended journalists for their dedication to accurate and ethical reporting amid challenges such as misinformation and the demands of digital media.

The event honoured outstanding contributions across media platforms, highlighting the importance of storytelling in simplifying complex legislative processes.
Awards recognised excellence, integrity, and innovation in parliamentary reporting, reinforcing the media’s watchdog role and channelling diverse citizen voices.
Among the award winners were Best Print Journalist, Mr Ernest Kofi Adu, Daily Guide; Best Radio and TV Journalist, Kwaku Asante, Joy News; Best Radio and TV Journalists (Twi), Mr Emmanuel Akorli, Peace FM; and Best Online Journalist, Ms Elsie Appiah-Osei, Ghana News Agency.
The others were Best Social Media Journalist, Mr Frank Bruce, Odikro Media; Best Television Camera Person, Mr Paul Egbenya, CitiFM/Channel One; and Public Service Broadcasting, Ms Racheal Quartey, Ghana Television.
The Speaker and the Clerk of Parliament, Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, received special citations for supporting press freedom and fostering a collaborative environment for the press corps.
