A 20-year-old labourer has been put in police custody after allegedly possessing a firearm without lawful authority and threatening to use it to kill another person.
Silas Owusu pleaded not guilty to the two charges when he appeared before the Nkawie Circuit Court, presided over by Robert Addo. He is expected to reappear before the court on January 9, 2026.
Police Chief Inspector Evans Ayimbisa, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, Kwadwo Addo, and the accused are both residents of Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.
According to the prosecution, on December 21, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m., the complainant was on his way to the Abuakwa Palace when he encountered the accused engaged in a fight with a neighbour. The complainant intervened and separated the two.
The accused reportedly became offended and attempted to attack the complainant with a piece of wood. The complainant fled the scene, leaving the wood on the ground.
The prosecutor said that when the complainant later returned to the area, the accused allegedly pulled out a Brazilian pistol from his shorts and threatened to kill him. The complainant managed to escape and reported the incident to the Abuakwa Police.
With the assistance of some angry youth in the area, the accused was arrested.
In his caution statement, Silas Owusu admitted the offence and led police to his room, where a search was conducted.
A pair of scissors and a knife were retrieved during the search. Following further investigations, he was charged and arraigned before the court.
