The National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) has announced a revision to the resumption date for all public Colleges of Education across the country, pushing it from the initially scheduled Monday, 19th January, 2026, to Monday, 9th February, 2026.
In a press release issued on Thursday, January 14, 2026, PRINCOF explained that the decision was taken to allow sufficient time for preparations ahead of the new academic period.
According to the statement, the adjustment is intended to ensure a smooth resumption of the academic calendar and to facilitate the completion of ongoing institutional arrangements critical to the effective delivery of teaching and learning.
"This adjustment is aimed at ensuring adequate preparation for a smooth resumption of the academic calendar and to allow for the completion of ongoing institutional arrangements necessary for the effective delivery of teaching and learning."
PRINCOF acknowledged that the change may cause some inconvenience to staff and students but appealed for understanding and co-operation from all stakeholders.
The leadership emphasised that the postponement was in the best interest of the colleges and aimed at enhancing overall academic efficiency.

Principals of the various Colleges of Education have been directed to promptly communicate the revised resumption date to their staff and students, enabling them to make the necessary academic and administrative adjustments.
"All Principals are kindly requested to communicate this update to their respective staff and students to make the necessary adjustments to their academic and administrative plans accordingly," the statement read.
Reaffirming its commitment to the advancement of teacher education, PRINCOF assured stakeholders of its continued dedication to fostering excellence within the colleges and called for sustained support as preparations continue ahead of the revised reopening date.
"We remain committed to fostering excellence in teacher education and count on your continued support."
The new resumption date of Monday, 9th February 2026, now stands as the official reopening day for all public Colleges of Education nationwide.
