Amidst growing public debate over the inclusion of LGBTQ-related content in the country’s senior high school teaching manual, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, has alleged that the NDC government and President John Mahama are interested in introducing an LGBTQ agenda into the country’s educational system.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Mr Assafuah said his assessment of recent developments indicated a deliberate effort by the government to influence the curriculum.
"I can have that rebuttable presumption and conclusion that the NDC led by John Dramani Mahama is actually interested in introducing the tendencies of LGBTQ in our curriculum, and that is the conclusion that I have," he said on the show on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
He raised concerns about the potential implications of such content on the educational environment and Ghanaian cultural values and called for broader public scrutiny, particularly to see the removal of the Board Chairman and the Chief Executive of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).

The remarks come as the NaCCA faces heightened scrutiny over curriculum reforms, with debates intensifying across social and traditional media platforms.
Mr Assafuah emphasised the need for transparency and public consultation, urging authorities to carefully consider societal values and parental concerns before implementing any significant changes in the country.
Meanwhile, the CEO of NaCCA has apologised to the public and withdrawn that portion from the teaching manual.
