Management of Bills Micro-Credit Limited says it has suspended its field officers involved in a viral altercation with a woman and handed them over to the Ghana Police Service for investigation.
The decision follows an earlier statement issued by the company after a video circulating on social media showed some of its officers engaged in a confrontation with a woman who was carrying a baby.
In the initial statement, the company described the incident as a matter of serious concern and said it was working to establish the full facts surrounding what transpired.
According to the company, the footage in circulation suggests that the woman attempted to retrieve a mobile phone from one of the officers while holding a baby, during which she unfortunately fell.
In an update, the company said the action was taken following a directive from its Board, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into the incident.
“Upon the directive of the Board, the officers involved in the incident have been immediately suspended by the company pending the outcome of investigations,” the statement said.
It added that the officers have also been handed over to the police to assist with independent investigations into the matter.
Management further disclosed that the Board has reached out to the customer involved and will continue to engage with her as investigations proceed.
Bills Micro-Credit reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability and full cooperation with law enforcement authorities.
The company indicated that additional updates will be provided as appropriate as the investigations progress.
