The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has warned that government will terminate the contract of Volta Impex Construction if the company does not speed up work on the 32-kilometre Techiman–Nkonsia–Wenchi road.
Agbodza said the contractor has ignored repeated warnings from the Ghana Highway Authority to meet its progress targets. The project should have reached 15 to 20 per cent completion by now but stands at just six per cent.
During a site inspection as part of a tour of selected road projects in the Bono, Bono East, Upper West, Upper East, and Northern Regions, the minister warned that government would not tolerate the delays any longer.
He said a decision on the future of the contract would be taken after a meeting with the contractor scheduled for Monday, September 7.
“The contractor hasn’t shown enough commitment to complete this job. Some mobilisation has been paid, and the contractor is not here. We’ll make a firm decision on Monday, [September 7],” he said.
According to the minister, the slow pace of work is unacceptable, especially after the contractor received GH¢66 million in mobilisation payment in May to commence and accelerate work on the project.
