According to the Daily Guide newspaper, the headmistress of Abetifi Presbyterian Senior High School in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region, Madam Charlotte Asante, has paraded 13 male students before the school's assembly for misconduct.

The students were reportedly hiding in their dormitories while their colleagues were attending the school's morning devotion.

The headmistress, according to the paper, got of know of this and reportedly instructed the boys' House Master and three other teachers to bring them to the assembly grounds.

The 13 boys [names withheld] comprising 2 final-year students and 11 in form two, were paraded in their boxer shorts before the assembly.

The headmistress further allegedly instructed the house master to take photographs of the students in their boxer shorts before their col­leagues, including females, of over 1,500 students.

Madam Asante further ordered three teachers to give the almost naked male students ten lashes each for misbehaving and flouting the rules and regulations of the school.

Daily Guide sources at the school confirmed that the male students had previously signed a bond to be of good behavior.

According to the sources, the headmistress even asked the parents to rent accommodations in the town for their wards, if they continued to be indiscipline or face her wrath.

Headmistress' Reaction

When the Daily Guide reporter con­tacted Madam Asante via telephone, she failed to give the exact reasons behind her action.

She asked that anyone who wanted further explanation should come to the school.

Madam Asante explained that her reason for causing the students to be photographed was to show it as evidence to the authorities.

"As I am speaking to you to now, I am at the Abetifi Police Station writ­ing a statement, so if you wouldn't mind, call the district education director or let's talk later." Madam Charlotte Asante stated and hanged up.

Both the Kwahu East District Chief Executive, Hayford and the District Education Director, Kwaku Boafo, when contacted, said they had no idea about any issue like that, adding that they were going to find out.
