Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire have released forward David Accam to join the Ghana national team camp after receiving a late invitation.
Accam only made his official debut for the Men in Red in a substitute appearance away to San Jose Earthquakes last Sunday after recovering from an injury he suffered during training the previous month.
He had initially been rested by Ghana coach Avram Grant but an injury to striker Mahatma Otoo has made his call necessary. Accam will therefore miss Fire’s MLS home match against the Philadelphia Union on Sunday, March 29
Otoo is reported to have picked up his injury during pre-season with his Norwegian club Sogndal IF.
Accam flew out of the United States on Tuesday evening for France and becomes the second player after Atalanta’s Richmond Boakye-Yiadom, to be handed late calls for the upcoming international friendlies against Senegal and Mali.
Boakye has replaced injured FC Sion forward Ebenezer Assifuah but head coach Avram Grant refused to find replacement for Augsburg left-back Baba Abdul Rahman who will not be available due to a reported injury to his toe.
The Black Stars face Senegal on March 28 at Stade Océane in Le Havre before the March 31 game against Mali at Stade Sébastien Charléty in Paris.
