Cote d'Ivoire won their first game since their recent crowning as African champions last month, when they defeated Angola 2-0 in an international friendly on Thursday at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan.
The Elephants struck first in the 24th minute through Rizespor of Turkey defender Diarrassouba Viera, before Hertha Berlin star Salomon Kalou sealed the win from the spot in the 89th minute.
Skipper Yaya Toure as well as other stalwarts of the AFCON-winning team like Gervinho, Max Gradel, Serey Die and Wilfried Bony started the game for the Elephants.
The Ivoirians will now tackle Equatorial Guinea in a second friendly game on Sunday.
The Equatoguineans also played an international friendly today losing 2-0 to Egypt in Cairo.
