Presidential Spokesperson Mahama Ayariga says his tour of some parts of the Bawku Central Constituency was not to campaign.
He said he was rather consulting with the people to find out their problems and how he could use his influence in government to help address those problems.
Responding to suggestions he had been making promises to the people bearing in mind a possible by-election in the constituency, Mr Ayariga said he was simply responding to basic requests for drinking water by the people and that there was nothing wrong with committing to provide basic needs for the people.
He reiterated his desire to contest the seat in a possible by-election in the constituency.
Mr Ayariga who was the MP for the constituency but lost to the NPP’s Adamu Dramani in the 2008 elections, told Joy News’ Evans Mensah that he (Evans) could be in contempt of court if he claims the constituency has a Member of Parliament.
“The person who purported to be an MP for Bawku has been disqualified and should not hold himself as a Member of Parliament,” he stated.
Reports say one Zakari is preparing to challenge Mr Ayariga for the NDC candidacy should the seat be declared vacant.
A High Court in Accra declared Adamu Dramani unfit to hold the seat because he contested the election whilst holding dual citizenship.
Since the ruling Mr Ayariga has been preparing himself for a possible by-election.
For now Mr Adamu Dramani is appealing the decision at the Supreme Court.
