Psychology and Education lecturer of the University of Education-Winneba, Reverend Eldad Bonney, has called on Ghanaians to desist from attacking and defaming people in high offices.
He said attacking and insulting learned and well-to-do personalities on radio in the name of politics does not promote democracy.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Winneba, Rev. Bonney noted that the nation needs committed people and nothing should be done to discourage them from serving their mother land.
“We should be able to tolerate each divergent view, no matter the person’s political affiliations, to help sustain and nurture our young democracy,” he said.
Rev. Bonney stated that there is the need for the country to come out from its abject poverty, adding, this could be achieved through hard work and dedication from people who have passion and love for the development of the state.
The Lecturer who built a 60,000 dollar library facility at Ekumfi Nanaben, in the Mfantsiman District in honour of President John Evans
Atta Mills, a citizen of the town, said insulting people through text messages and other political platforms does not help the nation.
He noted however, that the library facility was provided by a Japanese private Organization and urged rural and community leaders to explore financial opportunities from foreign and local donors to provide library facilities that would benefit children.
Rev. Bonney added that with more libraries within communities, children would spend most of their time sharpening their reading skills instead of engaging themselves in cyber fraud otherwise known as “Sakawa”.
The Lecturer, who is also a senior counselor of the University of Education said as “a nation, we need to talk about the skills and career development of our children with all seriousness at the public schools and support the government of the day to fulfill its
promises”.
