John Mensah has completed his long-drawn transfer to Sunderland from French giants Lyon.
The 26-year-old joins on a season-long loan, the Black Cats with the option of making the deal permanent at the end.
Capped almost 60 times for Ghana, Mensah's move is seen as a major boost to the defensive options on the English side.
He also has experience of playing in both Serie A and Ligue 1, where he made more than 60 appearances for Rennes before switching to Lyon for 8.4m euros last summer.
Mensah becomes Steve Bruce's sixth capture of the summer with the switch having been delayed due to the issuance of UK visa.
